18. John Bethune was born 2 October 1774 and died 18 April 1819 in Berbice (FES, vii. 27). He entered into a partnership with two other Scots in the plantation “Geanies” on the Corentyne Coast in 1801. He married in 1809 to Margaret Barry, daughter of David Barry of Grenada and may have left issue.[1]
18. Hugh Munro Bethune was born 22 November 1789 (FES, vii. 27) and died 18 October 1821 in Berbice (Dobson, Scots in Latin America, 9).
17. John Bethune, Minister of Dornoch = Barbara Margaret Monroe
18. John Bethune was born 17 August 1783 and died 5 July 1804 in Berbice (FES, vii. 85).
18. Robert Bethune was born 16 December 1796, farmed in the Black Isle and afterwards in America (FES, vii. 85). He was living in Thorah, Ontario at the time of the 1861 census.
