Some of his sons had set out for America a year or two before him.” (Whyte, 35).

Colin Bethune, born 1756 in Scotland, immigrated from Greenock to Wilmington, North Carolina, in 1772, died 29 March 1820 & buried in the Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Aberdeen, Moore Co., NC. He married Margaret, who was born in 1756, died 23 Oct 1846 & is buried in the Old Scotch Cemetery, Moore Co., NC.
