William and David McIlvaine of Pennsylvania
1. James II, King of Scots
2. Mary Stewart = James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton
3. James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran = Elizabeth Home
4. Johanna Hamilton = Alexander Cunningham, 5th Earl of Glencairn
5. William Cunningham, 6th Earl of Glencairn = Janet Gordon
6. James Cunningham, 7th Earl of Glencairn = Margaret Campbell
7. William Cunningham, 8th Earl of Glencairn = Janet Kerr
8. Colonel Robert Cunningham = Anne Scot
9. Anna Cunninghame = John McIlvaine of Grimmett
The link between Joseph McIlvaine (gen. 10) and his parents is purely speculative, but is supported by strong onomastic evidence. It seems likely that minimal research in Ayrshire sasines or other archival material would prove the relationship of these immigrants with the Grimmett family.
10. Joseph McIlvaine, merchant in Ayr[1] = Anna Rogerson
11. William McIlvaine, born 31 March 1722, died 1770 at “Fair View”, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was a shipping merchant and married (1) Anne Emerson and (2) Margaret Cross, leaving issue in America by his first wife.[2] His son, Dr. William McIlvaine, was physician to the St. Andrews Society of Philadelphia in 1794 (Historical Catalogue, 98).
11. David McIlvaine, born 22 September 1723, died 1761 in Philadelphia. He was a shipping merchant, like his brother, married Elizabeth Graydon, and appears to have left issue.
Bibliography
Gen. 9: NAS, GD25/8/853.
